PACK
…ALL OF YOUR BELONGINGS FROM EVERYWHERE IN YOUR SPACE.
Students will need to pack, clean, and box their items prior to their move-out appointment time. When doing a final walkthrough with your RA, no personal belongings should be left in your bedroom.
Do not remove any command strips on walls – please leave in place and Facilities, Real Estate and Planning will remove.
Contact the University Bookstore with any questions around returning rental textbooks.
Return your green to-go containers to The Pit or Hilltop at North Dining.
Keep your green recycling bin for next year.
- Graduating seniors can return their bins to the Office of Sustainability.
Don’t forget to pack, properly dispose of, or donate any personal items you may have had in any common space that is not your assigned room.
- This includes ALL items from bathrooms, countertops, and community kitchens.
Any abandoned personal property will be disposed of; failure to remove everything other than University furniture will be subject to applicable charges.
Please make time to collect all items you have left in the laundry room(s).
- Any items left in RL&H community laundry rooms will be collected and turned for textile recycling starting May 8, 2025
Take bicycles and motorized bikes home; any bikes left on campus over the summer are subject to collection by University Police.
Storage Scholars is an official moving and storage partner of Wake Forest University, founded and operated by students on-campus since 2017.
How the service works:
- Storage Scholars distributes packing supplies on campus for FREE.
- Student’s using the service pack their items up, take photos of everything, upload photos to their account, lock it in their room, and go home! No need to wait around for movers, well handle the moving in a completely contactless manner.
- Once final exams end and the campus is vacant, student employees arrive to pick up the items and move them into an insured, temperature-controlled storage facility near campus.
- When students return to school, their belongings will be ready and waiting for them in their new room!
Learn more on their website.

PLACE
…EVERYTHING WHERE IT BELONGS TO AVOID FINES.
Before you leave, you should:
- Close and lock your windows.
- Leave blinds down if your room is still occupied; pull blinds up if you are the last person checking out of your room.
- Fan coil units should be set to 70° and low fan speed.
- Turn off the lights.
All indoor trash and recycling receptacles will be blocked-off at the start of closing.
Dispose of your recyclables early! Recyclable materials should be disposed of prior to student move-out.
Trash MUST be removed from the space prior to your departure, and placed in dumpsters staged in your community or by bulk trash signage in designated areas.
Any abandoned trash will be disposed of and will be subject to applicable charges.
As you are cleaning your residential space, you are encouraged to donate reusable furniture and clothing by way of Deacs Donate, a non-profit initiative designed to reduce end-of-the-year waste and benefit local families.
During closing, Deacs Donate blue donation bins and signs will be placed in each community.
Use these bins (or designated areas for larger items) to donate any unwanted but usable items in good working condition to Goodwill. In an effort to honor the intent of donations, we ask that items not be removed once placed in Deacs Donate collection locations.
View what’s accepted and not accepted for donations here!
Place all cardboard waste by cardboard signage in designated areas in your community.
Lock your room door and return your key(s) to Residence Life and Housing at your community office.
Do not leave your key(s) in your room. Keys will not be accepted back via mail.

Plan ahead. Move out, don’t throw out!
