Very Specific Move Out Questions
Will items hanging in closets be folded to pack? or in wardrobe boxes?
Will we get a list of the number of boxes that were stored for us?
No we’re not able to provide that level of detail at this time.
I am a student orientation leader/RA for 2020. Will I be able to claim my boxes early when I move back on to campus?
If I want to store only some things (but I will pack the rest), what do I do?
Wake will store all your belongings at no cost to you, but we cannot sort your items. If you want to have some of your items sent home and store the rest, you would need to employ Storage Scholars.
I live in Polo and understand my room will be packed. I have crafting scraps I don't want thrown out. Will you guarantee they do not throw out any items (other than food)?
The intent is that movers will pack everything in the rooms except food, flammables, caustics (like bleach) or aerosols.
I live in Polo and understand Wake is packing my bedroom- how will packing of kitchens and common areas work?
Movers will leave some empty boxes in the common areas so you can take your items from the bathroom, kitchen, or den. We encourage you to bring extra boxes or containers to ensure you have space for all your items. If you have glass plates or glassware, we encourage you to bring bubble wrap or other protective packing materials as you self pack the kitchen.
Is there a pack-and-pick-up option? I am local and would be happy to come by and pick up boxes if someone packs them for me.
No. You either self-move out 100% or we will pack all items and store for you.
I have money and a checkbook in my desk. How can I be sure packers will not take them?
Our professional packers move people all the time. They are insured and vetted by the U.S. Marshalls for their work with the federal court system.

What if they find contraband (alcohol etc) in my room and I am underage?
Alcohol found in student rooms will be inventoried and discarded. Students will receive a communication that informs them of what has been discarded, but students will not be referred to the University’s conduct process for possible alcohol offenses. Items of an illegal nature (e.g., drugs or weapons) found in rooms will also be inventoried, but University Police will be asked to take possession of such items for the safety of the movers and University employees. University Police will not refer all instances of drugs and weapons found in the rooms to the University’s conduct process. Generally, instances of firearms and large quantities of illegal substances (indicating possible sale and distribution activities, for example) will be referred.

Will Storage Scholars be able to donate items I do not want anymore (and don't want shipped to me)?
Storage Scholars has video options for packing, and that is the time where you could tell them what you want to donate/discard.
When will Storage Scholars physically ship our items home?
You would need to consult with Storage Scholars.
Can I get things from my friend's room that they want sent home to them (and Wake packs and stores everything else?)
Students who share the same living unit (e.g., a double room, an apartment, or who are in the same suite) could move their room/suite/apartment/house-mate out if the student gives permission (submit proxy form). Due to limited on-campus staff, the requirement for key-card access, and the need for social distancing, students cannot move friends out of other buildings because we do not have the ability to support staff-assisted moves.

I am already moved out 100%. How do I notify Residence Life and Housing?
There is an option in the Housing Portal to indicate you have fully moved out.
