Hello Deacon Parents and Families! This will be our last time touching base before the majority of your students are back home with you for winter break. As they prepare to wind down the semester and leave campus, we’ve pulled together some reminders for you as you help them plan.
Prior to Thanksgiving break, students will receive messages preparing them for upcoming Health & Safety inspections from their hall staff. Remind them to read these messages carefully and to make sure their spaces don’t contain any violations.
For any students that may be on campus throughout the week of Thanksgiving, Shorty’s will remain open. Meals will be available at this location for a meal swipe, Old Gold swipe, or other normal payment options except on Thanksgiving Day. Pre-made meals will be available for pick up on Wednesday that can be requested ahead of time.
As your students get ready for a month away from campus, encourage them to utilize our Winter Break Departure hub – here they can access a series of checklists to help them think through how to pack and leave their space ready for a return before leaving. Those students living in Bostwick and Johnson can also find detailed instructions regarding their departure and move to Luter in their inboxes and on the Luter community page.
If you have a Deacon returning to campus housing this Spring, they’ll take place in our spring only selection taking place on December 8th. They were sent an initial message to help with their planning, and should expect a final email with their selection time at the end of the month – encourage those who may have been studying abroad and checking their email less often to keep an eye out.
As a refresher: residence halls close on December 12, 2021, at 2 p.m., and will reopen at 9 a.m. on January 8, 2022.
Students faced with housing insecurity or a significant financial insecurity, international students facing immigration, travel, and/or visa restrictions or those with any other extenuating health or safety circumstances are invited to request for winter break housing before Sunday, November 21, 2021. This housing will be hosted in either area hotels (in double-occupancy rooms) or University-sponsored housing from the period of December 12, 2021 – January 8, 2022 and will accrue an additional charge. Finally, as a continued reminder: If your student is looking for the chance to accrue a wide variety of invaluable professional skills and experiences all while connecting to the Wake Forest community, encourage them to think about applying to become a Resident Adviser with our office.
