Deacs Donate originated as a new project Spring 2002. The original organizers conceived of the project as a means to reduce landfill waste while simultaneously helping local Winston-Salem charities. The program is accomplished through a campus-wide collection program during residence hall closing in May.
Collection: During May closing, Deacs Donate sets up collection bins in all residence halls for student donations – clothes, storage units, shoes, books, toys, linens, furniture, carpets, etc. These donations are collected for use in benefiting a local charity.
Deacs Donate became a part of RSA (Resident Student Association) in the fall of 2003. RSA’s support along with the Office of Residence Life & Housing and student volunteers have helped sustain the project. It continues to thrive today, adding new projects and services each year!
