Instructions for New Thermostat Control, Adjustment and Function for Student ApartmentsJanuary 6, 2015
Over the winter break, Facilities and Campus Services installed new energy saving thermostats for the Student Apartments air conditioning and heating systems. Facilities and Campus Services also performed annual maintenance that included cleaning of air conditioning/heating units, ductwork, and replacement of system filters.
Listed below are instructions for new thermostat control, adjustment and function.
The New Thermostat has 3 buttons and 1 slide switch:
Red Up Arrow – Push to raise the temperature set point by .5 degree F increments
Blue Down Arrow – Push to lower the temperature set point by .5 degree F increments
Fan – Push to change mode or fan speeds. (Stop, Auto, Low Speed (Displayed as Small Fan), Medium Speed (Displayed as Medium Fan) and High Speed (Displayed as Large Fan)
Slide Switch – sets Display in degrees F or C
The digital display shows the current room temperature. When an up/down arrow button is pushed, the digital display will momentarily show the set point temperature.
Summer – Winter (2 pipe) System Operation
Summer operation: Outside temperature at or above 65 degree F
Adjust cooling set point by using an up/down arrow button to set the desired temperature.
Auto – Thermostat will maintain the setpoint temperature by cooling the area once the temperature rises 2 degrees F above the setpoint. Cooling will stop once the setpoint temperature is reached. The fan will start at the low speed and may change to the medium or high speed if the cooling setpoint is not reached within 2 to 4 minutes. If the fan button is changed to the low, medium or high speed setting while cooling cycle is running, the fan speed will stay at that setting every time additional cooling is required. The fan will stop while cooling is not required and only run when cooling is required. Heating is not available.
Winter operation: Outside temperature at or below 60 degree F
Adjust heating setpoint by using an up/down arrow button to set the desired temperature.
Auto – Thermostat will maintain the setpoint temperature by heating the area once the temperature drops 2 degrees F below the setpoint. Heating will stop once the setpoint temperature is reached. The fan will start at the low speed and may change to the medium or high speed if the heating setpoint is not reached within 2 to 4 minutes. If the fan button is changed to the low, medium or high speed setting while heating cycle is running, the fan speed will stay at that setting every time additional heating is required. The fan will stop while heating is not required and will only run when heating is required. Cooling is not available.
Stop (Displayed – Stp) – Stop mode will completely turn off the system except for freeze protection.
The new thermostats have a default setpoint of 68 degree F and low for cooling and 76 degree F and high for maximum heat.
Facilities and Campus Services will continue to monitor the performance of the new thermostat controls and will make necessary adjustments as needed. Please contact Facilities and Campus Services if you have issues with the function and performance of the air conditioning and heating system.
